- How often
- Every year, not every two years as in most other states. The licence expires on 1 October each year. Renewal can be filed online through the Board's account system, or by paper with a money order or certified check; the Board takes no cash.

- Fee
- $20 for a manicurist licence expiring 1 October 2026. The same figure covers esthetics, natural hair care and apprentice licences.

- Lapsed years are billed by the year
- North Carolina charges no flat late penalty. The fee table on the form is keyed to the year the licence expired and stacks each lapsed year: $20 for one expiring 1 October 2026, $40 for 2025, $60 for 2024, $80 for 2023, $100 for 2022. In plain terms, each dormant year adds roughly $20, and it is still owed when the holder comes back.

- Continuing education
- Yes. Signing the renewal form certifies that the holder has obtained all continuing education hours required by state statute and Board rules, and the Board may audit that under 21 NCAC 21R .0105(a). The form itself does NOT print the number of hours, so ask the Board on 919-736-6123 before signing, because a false certification is grounds for discipline.
