Opening a nail salon in Texas: the salon licence

What Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) publishes about licensing the salon itself, checked on September 7, 2026.

Licence types and fees
Three types: Establishment $78, Specialty Establishment (one service line, for example nails only) $78, Mini-Establishment $70. Fees are non-refundable. A mini-establishment must be located inside a licensed full-service or specialty establishment.

Requirements
Submit a completed application with the fee. All requirements must be met within one year of the date the application is received, or it is void. Owners must comply with the Health and Safety Standards and the Responsibilities of Establishments rules. Licensed premises may not be used for living or sleeping.

Licence term
Establishment licences are valid for two years from the date of issue. TDLR recommends applying online: online applications go straight to the Licensing Division.

Renewal
Renewal: full-service $78, specialty $78, mini $70. Expired under 90 days: one and a half times the renewal fee. Expired 90 days to under 18 months: twice the fee. Expired 18 months to 3 years: twice the fee, with the executive director's approval.
